1971 LT-1 #4504 with a 12/18/70 build date has a 3 piece with the center piece being slightly taller and thicker. My observations are that I have seen this configuration from 70 thru mid 71 production.

Interesting question Mike. Here is just some of what I had to chose from today. 5 -1970-1972s here and two others stored elsewhere. All original. I think I got a little bit of heaven today.



To answer your question: center piece is 3/4-inch front to back, however the late 1970 LT1 shown has only one piece of foam (center), and so does a late 1970 LS5. FWIW: 1/2 to 5/8-inch high and 11 3/4 long. My best recellection of mine (which does have three paces) is that the center piece has different dimensions than that. My car is not reasily available at this time.

Hmmm-How late are the Vin numbers on the 70 (s) Terry? My 70 L46 is an early June build and I just assumed the two outside pieces disappeared. It still has the center piece. I have been looking for a set of original outside pieces for a while now. I cannot recall if there was glue residue before cleaning up the radiator support.

Well Bill I have to do some more Photobucket stuff. My phone takes larger and better pictures than my camera, but they are too large for this board and I haven't figured out how to re-size them yet. I had intended to PM Mike, but here you go.

Below: I failed to get the VIN of this late 1970 LS5. It will probably be next week before I can get it.

The measurements I provided in the earlier post are from this LS5 car.

Oh yea! There is always something to learn from "real deal" cars. I really wish I could get Mike E the answer from my car, but it is 100 miles away at the moment. I know it is different than those above, but it is like these:

That's a very nice condition original seal. My two '71's have nice original seals like that also, so much nicer than the 3 piece set-up of the earlier built cars.

There was a lot of changes going on, and we have done a poor job of tracking that -- especially given how in-your-face that foam seal is.

If you have Microsoft Office 2010, you can load the pictures on to your computer, then "right click" on the picture, move your mouse to "Open with", various progams will show to choose from, choose Microsoft Office 2010, once the picture opens in MO 2010, left click on "Picture" in the upper toolbar, a dropdown box will appear, choose "Resize", the resize options will appear on the right side of the screen.

Thank you Mike. That will work from work (Office 2010) but home is Office 2013. I will see what gremlins Bill Gates left in wait for me there. I am a MS hater in part because each version is different and backwards compatibility is not always good.
