70 4 speed trans tunnel insulation installation

I am getting ready to install the trans tunnel insulation from a well known vendor. They state that you need to enlarge the opening for a C3.

Does anyone have the shape and dimensions of the correct opening?

If not, would it be correct to say that the opening is just big enough to clear the screws that attach the metal plate that fastens the rubber boot in place and that it basically follows the outer circumference of the retainer?

Am I correct in thinking that the insulation is positioned to just clear the emergency brake cable as well?

    Pictures would be great.

    Thanks,

    Bill

May you elaborate on what the answers were? Its always nice to close the loop with as much info as possible about the fix so when someone (like me) searches the archives the answers are there. I know this is a older post. Im installing the tunnel insulation in the 68, 327. The trans, bell housing and shifter are removed. The triangular retainers are all in decent shape though I bought new ones just incase. How do you install this insulation? I tried w/o success at the tail end of my tired day. It looks to me like the triangular attaching tabs have to be 90* from the tunnel then you just man handle in. By that I mean folding the dam thing so it gets in position over the retainers then push them through the insulation and fold like the factory did??? Any help on this procedure would be greatly appreciated. Does the above procedure sound correct?

Re: 70 4 speed trans tunnel insulation installation

Anyone have any info on how to go about installing the tunnel insulation in a 68 small block car? The trans, clutch and shifter are out for service and going back in soon. The OEM triangular fasteners are in tact. Ive bent them back out, but this reduces the space to allow the insulation to fit up into the tunnel. Does the insulation simply need to be bent and man handled? See above post for more info. TX Dave.

Sorry I did not respond. I have not been on in quite a while. Life has been busy.

I am pretty sure you got the correct answer. Yes you just fold it up just enough and then push it over the clips.

            Kind Regards,

            Bill
