2014 NCRS Road Tour Preview
2014 Mid-Atlantic Road Tour: Led by Steve Gansky, Departs King of Prussia, PA Tuesday July 8 at 9AM, Day – 1: Stops at Gettysburg and then onto Skyline Drive. Spend the night at Skyland Resort in the Shenandoah National Park. July 9: Natural Bridge, VMI Museum and Canyon Rim Visitor Center. Overnight in Charleston, WVA, July 10: Bourbon Trail and Monmouth Cave overnight in Bowling Green, July 11: Corvette Museum and Plant. Overnight in St Louis, July 12: St Louis Arch and National Transportation Museum. Overnight in Independence, MO at LNO. Still a work in progress
Tour Leaders Bill Sangrey and Jerry Hilbert will once again combine efforts for a leisurely, scenic and event filled tour to the 2014 convention. The Eastern “Piedmont” leg will depart Carlisle, PA Tuesday July 8th to overnight in Bluefield, WVA and join the Queen City Tour leg in Harrodsburg, KY July 9th , which departs Cincy earlier in the day, to tour and overnight at Pleasant Hill Shaker Village in Harrodsburg, KY. Thursday morning July 10th we’ll tour the Corvette Plant and then visit museums in Paducah, KY staying overnight there. Friday afternoon and evening we’ll take in our own choices of shows in Branson. Saturday will be a short day to LNO in Independence, MO but will include a stop at the Truman Farm on the way.
ONTARIO ROAD TOUR: led by Scott and Kay Sinclair. Depart July 10th from the Bolton area through southwestern Ontario into Michigan. Afternoon at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. then on to Jackson, MI. Next morning on to the Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners, MI, possible stop at Corvette Central in Sawyer, MI, then south across Indiana into Peoria, IL. July 12th, off to Hannibal, MO, home of Mark Twain, then on into Independence, MO, for our Last Night Out reception.
Denver Road Tour: led by Ralph and Sharon Ridge. This year’s RM road tour could be titled the “Off the Beaten Path” road tour as we will be driving across the mid-section of the US on predominately country roads, through small towns in a farming area known as the “breadbasket” of the US. We will visit several museums along the way and make a stop at the geological center of the United States.
DAY 1, 4+30 hrs driving. After leaving Denver, we will travel east on US 36, making a stop at the High Plains Raceway, a new SCCA road course track. We’ll lose one hour today and should arrive in Norton by early to mid-afternoon. Many of us will then take a short drive to McCook, NE in time to tour the museums there and visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Sutton House. McCook will also afford us more restaurant choices for dinner before returning to Norton for the night.
DAY 2, Fri July 10: Norton, KS to Nebraska City, NE. 6+30 hrs driving, Leaving Norton we’ll travel East on US 36 again, stopping briefly for a photo op at the geographical center of the US near Lebanon, KS. We’ll angle back up into Nebraska to Ashland, NE for a stop at the Strategic Air and Space Museum. Leaving there we will drive about one hour south to the Lied Lodge (www.liedlodge.org) in Nebraska City, NE for a great dinner and o’night accommodations.
Day 3, Sat July 10: Nebraska City, NE to LNO party, 170 miles, 3 hours driving, After a late breakfast, we’ll leave the Lied Lodge and drive to Atchison, MO and visit the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum. After lunch, we’ll drive on in to the LNO hotel. Looking forward to another fun NCRS road tour SAVE THE WAVE
North Central Road Tour: led by Mark and Charlene Ogren. Depart on Thursday, July 10 from beautiful, historic Stillwater, MN. We will follow scenic back roads of Minnesota stopping in Sioux Falls, SD for tours of the Performance Car Museum or family fun at the Wild Water Family Amusement Park or Great Plains Zoo. On Friday, July 11, time permitting, we will travel through Sioux City, NE and tour the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation before stopping in Lincoln, NE where we will enjoy a tour of the Smith Collection Museum of American Speed. On Saturday, July 12 we will depart Lincoln, NE and travel the scenic and hilly roads along the Missouri River with the opportunity to stop in Atchison, KS home of Amelia Earhardt before arriving in Kansas City, MO to the Last Night Out.
Texas Road Tour: led by Ken & Vicki Robb. Departing Weatherford, TX July 10 traveling to Ok City, OK for museum tours. July 11 travel Rt. 66 to Joplin, MO visiting various sites along the way. July 12 travel to LNO in Independence, MO.
California Road Tour: led by Jerry and Pat Louer. The tentative plan but could change is to leave from Ontario, California on July 9, 2014 traveling to and along I-40 stopping at historic Seligman, AZ on old route 66, then we continue on to Flagstaff, AZ. From Flagstaff we’re on to a drive through the Petrified Forest National Park then on to Santa Rosa, NM. From Santa Rosa we do a stop at the American Air Museum and then on to Greensburg, KS. On the final day we stop at the Cedar Cove Feline Sanctuary and possibly a stop at the President Truman Library and Museum then finally arriving at the last night out on July 12, 2014 in Independence, MO.
Washington State Road Tour: led by Mike Doty. July 9 Depart Yakima Washington, spending the evening at the Best Western, LaGrande, OR. July 10 Depart LaGrande, OR,
spending the night at Rock Springs, WY. July 11 depart Rock Springs, WY, ending the night in Nebraska City, NE. July 12 Depart Nebraska City, NE arrive for last night at Independence, MO.
Southeast Road Tour: There will be a Southeast RT led by Don Warmuth, starting in Salem SC. Watch for the details.
