    Mike,

Just to clarify, do you want to remove just the lock cylinder (that part the keys inserts into), or do you want to remove the entire switch that has the electrical connections on the back side?

      Gary,

I was able to remove the ignition switch. The reason for removing it is to clean it or replace. It sometimes sticks when starting. Could the sticking be in the switch or the tumbler?

        Mike,

When you say something "sticks", what are you referring to? Does the lock cylinder not turn easily between positions? Or does the key not insert and/or come out easily?

The key works fine and the tumbler turns freely. The sticking is when the starter is engaged.

            Mike,

I would recommend that you replace the original switch if you can find one. The reason being is that the switch will carbon track between the run and start position causing your problem. When the carbon arc's it will burn and it will burn the bakelite like it was a piece of paper. It can burn your Corvette to a pile of charcoal if you don't get it out quick. Ask me now I know? My 63 did the exact same thing and I was going to get around to fixing it someday. I was lucky that I acted quickly and pulled the battery cable!
            Good advise! Take it!
