    Door latch overspray?

'66 L79 Vert #1241-- Anyone have a picture of how the (body color) overspray should look on the door latches-- I understand that a boot went over the latch to partially shield it, but at judging I was deducted for "no overspray" (I now have correct touch-up paint-- spray and brush-on, from Tower paint-- it appears to match well). I am talking about the latch mechanism on the rear end of the doors.

    Thanks

No pics but take a small spray can cover or a small Dixie cup and place it over the door male latch on the rear of the door to within about an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch of the door itself. Your door is painted already, so tape off around the latch so as to not get over spray on your existing door paint. Then preferable with a spray gun or rattle can spray the gap left uncovered between the cup and the door. This doesn't need to be full coverage to hiding but should have considerable paint on the latch.

Steve, The female latch in the jamb should also shield the inside area of the jamb fiberglass from full paint coverage. But you will find that most restored cars a totally finished in this area. But if you want it to be totally correct paint coverage should be minimal.

Here's a picture of an unrestored Dutov/Bowtie '65 door jamb latch.

              Stephen,

Just to be clear, you're talking about the part on the door in photo #1 in Tracy's posting. Not the receiver part that Tracy shows in photo #2 or that James shows in his photo. Correct?

For the receiver part on the body (Tracy's photo 2 and James' Bowtie car photo), it doesn't look to me like a mask was used, i.e., it looks like the paint goes under the latch receiver.

Thanks for the pix, guys. Gary-- yes I was talking about the latch on the door itself, not the receiver on the door jamb.
