    Need Recommendation

I live in the Des Moines IA area and I'm considering having my 1966 Coupe Painted. If there is anyone out there that has a recommendation for a shop that does superior work, please advise.
    Thank You!

    Frank,

Don Peers at Peers Autoworks in Omaha, NE. Don has owned the #99 !953 Corvette since he was kid back in the 60's and has been an NCRS member since 1974. He knows old Corvettes and how to paint them. Painted a '65 396 convertible for me, just finishing the restoration and will have it flight judged this spring in Rochester, MN.

Frank,Another possibility is Twin Oaks Classic Corvette in Elwood, Iowa. Todd Spain is a long time NCRS member and has done many Top Flight restorations. Good luck, Don H.

                James
Thanks again for the additional info on Twin Oaks Classic Corvette. When you get two recommendations on a shop, that says a lot. I don't about you all but I've encountered a lot of experts along the way. It's reassuring when you get recommendations for true craftsman.

                    Re: Need Recommendation

Frank, do you intend to have your car painted with lacquer, or is it your hope to have it painted BC/CC with a judging appearance of lacquer?

Tony: I thought that I had responded to your question but in reviewing the posts I don't see my response that I posted or thought I posted earlier. Essentially lacquer would preserve the originality of the car. I'm not familiar with your abbreviation of BC/CC and would greatly appreciate your enlightenment of same. With respect to the other paints on the market, is the difference in between them and lacquer that noticeable? I'd appreciate your pros and cons if you have the time to share them. Thank You!

                        Re: Need Recommendation

                        Frank: BC/CC = base coat/clear coat.

Before you make your final decision about the type of paint and painter you decide to use, you should talk with the exterior judges and team leader for your year car. Lacquer is the traditional choice, but today's lacquer is not production lacquer. If you are mostly wanting to show your car and drive it very sparingly, then lacquer can be a good choice, but if you intend to also drive and enjoy your car with some regularity, then investigate the durability issues with modern lacquer paints. There are a number of skilled Corvette painters who can sufficiently replicate the needed "look" of BC/CC paints for judging purposes. The obvious advantage of BC/CC is that it's much more durable and has much better product warranties. I will say that it is easier to work with a solid color paint than metal paints.

Hope this helps. It's best to work through your analysis now before you start writing checks.

                        Best,
                        Tony

Tony: Thank you and I very much agree with you with respect to going through the analysis stage. I do plan on driving the car and your points are well taken with respect to (BC/CC) durability and warranty as well as being able to replicate the color of Mossport Green with the modern lacquers. I'll get in touch with the exterior judges as well as team leader and discuss same with them. I'm sure that they have knowledge of who can do the work and get the desired results.
I do appreciate your help and providing guidance. And for that, I sincerely thank your for taken your time to respond to my request for help and recommendations.
