70 Master Cylinder Date Code Judging

I've reviewed several threads on the Forum regarding master cylinder Julian dating of the machining date on the front brake line surface as well as the JM which states "The two-letter code TG is stamped on the front line fitting surface with the date code". It appears from these posts a date code wasn't always apparent and when a code did appear, it wasn't always in a recognizable Julian date format. My question directed to those familiar with the judging process is does the lack of a machine date code affect the judging score on the master cylinder? Thanks...Clark

And my A29 built 1970 simply has the number 1 on the front line fitting machined area. I have been looking for 43 years (well, almost) for someone to tell me what that means. I know I am not unique as I once saw a master cylinder for sale at a swap meet with the same mark on it. Unfortunately the seller was asking an obscene (for the time) price for it. Mine has PG on the top machined area. Both Ken & I have power brakes on our cars.

"The two-letter code TG is stamped on the front line fitting surface with the date code". Refers to 1972 (or should refer to 1972) Read the words more carefully.

Thanks Terry. I read the JM paragraph several times before posting the quote but appreciate the clarification. Is the machining date a judged item? Do to the inconsistencies it doesn't appear that it is but before I order a new master cylinder and pay $50 extra for a "correct" Julian date I wanted to ask the question not being familiar with the judging process.

Some of the current 1970-72 Chassis judges will have to speak to your question. I can tell you what the policy was when I was NTL, but that was in the dark ages and doesn't mean squat today. For all I know they changed the score sheets and the Engine team does the master cylinder now days. And before some of my 'friends' help me out, I know i could look at the score sheets on-line to find that, but I don't care to this morning. Too much else to do today.

Clarke, i went to a regional this year with my 72 with no date and nothing was noted, even if you had 20/20 vision and a magnifying glass you likely would not even be able to read a date.

That would be judged by the Mechanical team. But I think at this time they may or may not note that there was a date stamp. If they did they would tell you how the date is deciphered. I do not think they are making any deductions at this time but I should let them answer that.

FWIW, I lost 1 of 12 available points on my '72 at the 2011 National for "no julian date." I suppose they were right. Got all 10 condition points.

The date code on my Feburary 2nd car is 1021. 1971 21st day. This has to be the worlds smallest date code.

OK Are 1970 master cylinders judged for a date code. If so what is the date of Terry's with just a 1 & mine that is 6 9 6 & nether one has any letters?
