Hopefully, John Hinckley or someone will comment on how the pilot process worked. I have seen pilot marking on other 1968 interior pieces but cannot speak to the build dates. 1968 production began in August so yours used parts that were in supply well before its build. GM most likely used these until they were gone as they were functional.

The lower position of the seat-back release did not change until sometime in May so that was not an early decision. Seat shims were supplied from the factory and the two parts are designed to be used in pairs so they would be the same size.

Nice set of original shims. We don't see those very often.

One of my BILs has a 1968 in the 3000 s/n range that has PILOT JOB ink stamped on the reverse of many of the interior pieces.

It is especially prominent on non standard interiors. I have seen it on blue cars well up into the 3000+ serial nembers.

Thanks Reba. Sounds like they are just "early parts" as it appears to be a standard blue vinyl interior.. it also sounds like I need to find a pair of matching "thin" shims to replace the thick ones for a correct set!!

Yes, the two round shims in the top left are definitely not originals. Sorry I did not comment on that earlier.
