Firestone Steel Radial 500 - my article in the winter 2013/2014 Restorer

I already received some feedback on my article in the current Restorer, which I would like to share with you...

Tory Syvrud added this detail on the wheel weights: "...you did not mention a very important issue that the 75-77 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide has incorrect: wheel weights. As you know the book states your car should have Micro weights, but this is incorrect. Micro stopped supplying Corvettes around 1973. ..."

And John Kelsey answered my question about the BO5S-code: ".... Your question about the BO5S TIN plate number on the reverse side of the tire is for internal factory use. This will identify the curing press row, curing press number, and the curing cavity holding the specific mold which your tire was cured in. This further leads to the green tire flow to the curing press from the respective tire machine building the tire as well as the individual assembling the green tire. ..."

Thank you Tory and John - your added information is very much appreciated.

    Best

While I don't have newer than 1972 AIMs every 1968 to 1972 AIM describes the wheel weight installation as inside the wheel only. I would expect the newer AIMs to have similar instructions -- but you are best off checking your year for yourself.

This is one thing I love about NCRS. How a little tiny detail like a wheel balance weight can be important to a truly authentic restoration.

        Keep up the good work!
