I don't think that anyone here was saying, or even implying, that the buyer did not know the car in question did not have its original engine. Also, I don't think anyone was saying or implying that the car didn't deserve a Top Flight (or any other) NCRS award. Quite the contrary. The original question was could a 1971 Corvette without its original engine ever obtain such an award. The 1967 L-88 discussed here is a perfect example of not only the fact that a car without its original engine could achieve Top Flight but also that a car without its original engine could be quite valuable.
Exactly, NCRS made the decision early on, and I mean early on some 28 plus years ago that you do not have to throw a car away because some 17 - 3 broke the original engine. incidentally in my world a 17 - 3 is a size 17 shirt and 3 hat!

      John,
If you do the math, 88 judging points comes to aapproximately 2 final points. That would bring the final score to 98. Anything over 97 is
free. It also gives you 45 more judging points wiggle room for a final 97. Your total actual deductions of judging point is approximately 135 to
have a final total 97, a top Flight requires a 94 final score. Every 4.5 judging points (deduction) is 1/10th of a final point, it takes 45 judging points to deduct 1 final point. Remember
you start out with a possible 4510 points to the good. On the NCRS Scoring Summary Sheet all of the numbers a broken down. You can acquire all the
judging sheets by going on line with NCRS, download and print them it will help you understand part of the judging system.
