Correct date on a 870 engine block for a 1964 Corvette?

I wonder if you can help me with the date for a engine that might match
The date of the 870 engine block is: i 26 3
Can a I263, September 26`th 1963 made engine block be used on a December 6`th 1963 built 64 Corvette or is the engine to old?

I thought that the engine block should be from the 2 last weeks in October or the month of November to match the date of the car

Hope that any here knows if this is a correct date that matches the car

NCRS allows 6 months for the date. Most of the more common engines were within 2 weeks or so prior to the car date. If you go to the Corvette registry they have a page where people have listed the engine pad for their cars and you can see typical dates. High horsepower engines or unusual options might typically have longer time between the part date and the car date.

Claus, my 63 has a Jan. 16th 63 cast date and assembly stamp Feb. 25th 63 and a March 14th build date. my engine is a 340shp, As Bob says some of the cast dates on the lower production engines maybe spread out some, but the assembly stamp should be close to the build date.

          Roger -

          Have you verified that it's a Flint block (I 26 3) or a Tonawanda block (I 2 63)?

John have a look at the pictures because i am pretty sure it is a Flint block
See the blue circel on the first picture which makes me think it is a Flint block and the date is on the picture to the right

Updated. I have enlarged the picture to the right so it is more easy to see the fitting in the blue circle

the pipe plug and the single digit for the year indicate it truly is a flint block. but plugs can be added and the casting date can be massaged with jb weld-type products. take a pen knife to the dating date numerals and acertain they are cast iron, not a synthetic epoxy based attempt to deceive. mike

The engine is far away from me so i would have to buy it from looking at the picturesHere is a picture after the block was cleaned and before it was painted
