On my rough 31,000 mile 65 the original rear bumper "bracket" bolt washers & lock washers look like they were plated black ? The bolts were RBW & cad plated but the washers look black . I bought a new bolt kit from Long Island they come with M head marks and everything is cad or zinc plated . Anybody know for sure ?

Re: 65 rear bumper bolt washers
Bill,
The finish for bumper-related nut and washer hardware for the C2 era is interesting as it evolved from '63 thru '67. Based on my research for '65 the rear nuts (5/8" across the flats) should be cad or zinc. I believe the flat washers should also be cad or zinc. I believe for '65 the lock washers were black phosphate. The problem with the kits supplied by the catalog companies is they don't want to have a kit for '63 that is different for '64 that is different for '65, etc. So they typically sell just one kit for 63-67, which in my opinion is simply not correct. For '65 the AIM has a mid-year revision which changed the lock washers used from a standard to a hi-collar. When that change was actually implemented on the '65 production line in not yet known. But again, the standard kits from the catalog companies typically don't pay adequate attention that such details.

As an aside, the style of the M on repro M head mark bumper bolt is not 100% correct, and pretty easily identified once one knows what to look for.
