Is chassis Judging at NCRS nationals done on a lift? Was just having a conversation about this with a friend. He thought that he had read somewhere that it was done on a lift, I figured that the logistics of 60 to 80 cars being judged on a lift would be a nightmare.

Re: Chassis Judging at nationals
Are you going to be removing undercoating? It's a pain, but for those extra points it may be needed.
Not sure where your points totals currently lie, but I don't recall (operative word) a Duntov car with undercoating.

Re: Chassis Judging at nationals
I just barely pulled off the 97 needed. I have a few things that I can correct over the next few months to give me a bit of a buffer. I drive the car quite a bit, so will need to clean quite a bit before judging again. I lost around 20 or 25 points for the undercoating- Top

+1, mine was way more than that at Regionals. In fact a judge commented that it was hard to judge the undercarriage since "everything is black and sticky".Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Chassis Judging at nationals
Michael Judging will be tougher at the National than at a regional. There will be many more Master Judges at a National and that might not bode well for an undercoated car. My '71 was undercoated and once I cleaned it all off the underside was pristine. I would start cleaning now. I used mineral spirits and a lot of patience. It was well worth it. Bob- Top

Re: Chassis Judging at nationals
Try Eastwood's Undergone. It works great. You will need at least 6 cans, a good scraper and a few dozen scratch pads. Did mine 2years ago. The car was a Chicago area car and had undercoat everywhere. Ask Demmel what it looks like now.Kurt Geis

Even from behind a computer I can tell you it will be a long tedious and very messy process.Terry- Top

Re: Chassis Judging at nationals
Gary It was tedious but I used both Undergone on some areas and the mineral spirits in a spray bottle. I soaked the areas of undercoat and used plastic putty knives to scrape it off. Once I cleaned an area I wiped it down with the mineral spirits to finish is off. As Terry said you may have to try different products. The Undergone did not work as well fro me as the mineral spirits. Kurt had more luck with it and his chassis looks great. I liked the mineral spirits because it did not remove the grease pencil markings I found under the under coat. You will need patience. By the way, I'm one of those skinny guys who sometimes does chassis and I can get most of the way under a C3.Bob
