    Vendor For Engine Block

I am in need of a bare engine block for my 65 Coupe. I am looking at perhaps buying from Engine Limited located in Omro, Wi. Can anyone give me any info on this company? I hope this is the right forum to ask this question. Thank you in advance.

What are you looking for a 396 or 327 and around what date code?

Looking for a 396, late Jan. of 68. Casting number 3916323 is also desireable.

I don't understand. In your original post you say that you need a block for your 1965 coupe.

Then, in your latest post you say you're looking for a 396 cast in late January, 1968. Then, you say you want a 3916323 block casting which is a 1968 396 casting. The latter was never originally used in any Corvette. So, why do you want such a block casting with January, 1968 date for a 1965 Corvette?

          Bill,

I have had good luck with Randy Chapin at Engines Limited. Both times I used him he delivered what he promised. He can be a bit slow, though.

            Bill,

Randy @ Engines Limited has been in business for more than 20 years (my guesstimate), which isn't a guarantee of integrity, but he hasn't ever disappeared in the middle of the night like some have. I bought a nice exhaust manifold from him about 15 years ago.

Just asking, not implying, do both or one of the mentioned companies also do restamping?

I believe you know the answer At least 1 of them 's web site say's they have been stamping pads for over 25 years & now have a broaching machine.. 30/25 years ago there were few Corvettes with original factory stamped blocks & now most C-1 & C-2's are presented that way.

Seems kinda funny how we talk about restampers with a sneer but if it's good enough to look like factory, it gets OK for judging. Guess no way to tell "real from Memorex" as old ad used to say, huh?

There are a few people with the original Stamps used buy GM, Classic engines and engines limited are a few.

BINGO That's what I have been saying for years. If it looks like a duck & quacks like a duck. Its a duck! So let's let it go & stop asking the owner if it's the original block when he didn't buy it new & most likely has no Idea if it is or isn't. Previous owners sometimes forget facts about there Corvette up to & including the original ones & not just about the motor. How many of us unhooked the spedo cables to keep it under warranty ETC.

And perhaps people will come to their senses and stop placing such a premium on "original engine" and "matching numbers". It should be something that's nice to have and helpful for judging and show, but not increase the value of the car by so much. When the monetary incentive is gone, the counterfeiters will disappear (or at least the issue won't be so important).

How bout the opposite? If the money is THERE, regarding increased value of real deal original vs "appears original" won't there be more incentive to accurately separate the two? Would think file photos of BB stamps and trim plates like Al Grenning and Roy Sinor doe helps. No matter what you would like it to be, IF a collector car, whether MB gullwing, etc. or Corvette can be verified as having its "born with" drive train, it's going to be more valuable, at least to those in the know or who want to know.
