    57 corvette rpo579c question

    57 Corvette RPO 579C question.
Does anyone out there own a 57 FI PG car which designated as RPO 579C with engine stamp FK.
I'm curious as to how many of these have survived.
GM produced 102 or 103 cars with this designation.
Since they were a low HP Powerglide car I would think percentage wise more have survived compared to the 283-283 HP engine equipped cars.
But, since so many 283 HP car have been cloned there are lots of them.

Please note that Ken Kaysers research has found that the RPO number should be RPO579B, but my question remains the same.

I have posted this same question on the CORVETTEFORUM.com

I live in a small town in CT, and a fellow I known for many many years owns a 57 Powerglide 250hp car he purchased NEW. The car came radio delete, and years ago he added a radio. I've asked for about 30 years if he would sell the car and the answer is always the same NO.

                    Re: 57 corvette rpo579c question

The first fuel injection unit I ever owned came out of a '57 LHP Powerglide car owned at the time by Dick Compton of Jeannette, PA.
Unit was a 7014520. The car was silver as I recall. Serial number of unit was low 1000's. When my son was but 3 years old I let him play with it using any kind of wrenches he wanted to use. I have a pic of that around here somewhere. Actually I owned the 4520 two or three times as Dick and I kept trading back and forth.
I ended up trading the unit to a 57 owner and in exchange I got Bruce's favorite FI unit. 7014360 #16. I think I got taken but I still have the 4360. LOL. Old JD

I have always wondered Vinnie why the FI unit is missing the Identification tag? Maybe the good MD could answer if he would. I actually think you answered this question years ago but I forget stuff. thanks, John

                        John,
As you know my 4360 is number 136 and runs great to every ones surprise.
Since you don't like my POC unit, Bob Williams tuned it and I'm real happy with it.
John, I hope all is well with you and I will see you at Carlisle this summer.

the 4360 on my early 57 250 hp pg was the 69th fi rochester built.i'm sure you recall the first 100 or so were stamped and no rochester tag was riveted to the plenum.mike

Mike my 4360 unit 136 is both steel stamped and has a tag.
In discussions with Ken Kayser he thinks this occurred when the switch from stamped to tags took place.
We both wonder if there is a stamp also under the tag, but I don't want to take the tag off due to possibly bending it.
In his book he pictures another unit with a tag but also stamped 136 under the tag.
                            Go figure..

John...ACTUALLY the FI Unit is your poster that you sent me way back when I was thinking about the cover/article, I extracted it from the poster background in red in Photoshop...and the air cleaner is the good Doc's...I went to Shippensburg to attend a MAC tech session in the middle of winter where there was more snow than I've ever seen in my life...and the good doc brought his air cleaner & I did a complete photo shoot of it from all different angles/directions etc. & replaced your air cleaner from the poster with his...now as far as the tag, someone must have advised me to remove it for some reason or another before it went to the printer...can't recall who or why...I have about 60 hrs into that cover and I think it's one of the best I've done so far too...so...once again the good doc is off the hook...and now that I see Doc's post...I guess he answered the question...
