    Driveshaft Install 70 4 speed

This is more out of curiosity than anything but might also help when reinstalling the driveshaft.

There is a balance weight on the rear pinion input. Curious to know if when installed the driveshaft weights were attached in a manner that related to driveshaft when attached to rear input yoke.

I know which is front and rear on my driveshaft but not where it was originally attached to the rear yoke. There were no marks to align.

Since I have no marks, if there is vibration, I will just turn the driveshaft 180 degrees based on reading previous posts.

The driveshaft had obviously been out before since both u joints were replacements.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Bill, The driveshaft was balanced as a assy., kind of like a tire is. you can put it on the front or rear and should not matter. But we never say never as sometimes you'll find 180 rotation of the shaft will sometimes cure a driveline vibration. I Myself mark the shaft and yoke before removal with a grease pencil. I believe the factory does have paint on the driveshaft and yoke for align. upon assy.

Thanks Edward. I actually marked the drive shaft and rear before disassembly. Problem is the folks that bead blasted the rear removed the mark against my wishes. The only way I know front from rear is there is a minute amount of pitting on the rear of the driveshaft and none elsewhere.

        Bill,

I think the drive shaft was balanced with the front yoke installed and there was a green paint dot in the rear light or heavy end, (I can't remember which). This paint mark was used to align with the blue paint dot on the pinion flange.

Fifty years later, I am not sure it matters.
