    C1 Tach removal

I need to remove the tachometer on my 60' for service. Can the pod be removed to expose the tach without removing all of the wiring harness connections to the gages? In other words, I know both panel assy. need to be removed however, can this be done leaving the gages and speedometer in place?

Speedometer has to come off the cluster before you can access the tachometer. No other way.

The least painful way to work on the tach, in my opinion, is to pull the cluster, set it on your bench, and then disassemble it.

I agree with Jim L., pull the whole cluster.
      First disconnect the battery.
I have found that you can release the 2 sets of gauges from the cluster and let them hang if you don't want to remove the wires from them.

My thought was that it would take less time and trouble to just let the gauges hang. I am not excited about labeling each wire as it is being removed from the back of the instrument panel.

          I understand your concern.

However, when I R&Red my '60's cluster, I chose not to tag each little wire and it worked out fine. My reasoning was that the place to attach each wire is fairly obvious and, in fact, wire lengths are so critically manufactured that they simply won't reach much other than their intended terminals. IOW, it's really hard to connect something incorrectly.

Really, pull the cluster. It's easier that way.

Use a digital camera to take pictures of where all the wires go. Then pull the entire cluster.
