    1960 clutch rebuild question??

I rebuilding the clutch in my 1960. It has a diaphragm pressure plate that I had NAPA send off for rebuild along with rebuilt clutch disc and resurface the flywheel. When I bolted the pressure plate up I noticed that there is only about 1/8" of gap before the pressure plate starts applying pressure to the clutch disc. Is this all that is necessary for proper pressure?

    Thanks for the help.

I would say that's about right.

By the way, you do realize that a diaphragm-type clutch is not what was originally used for your application, don't you?

Thanks Joe, yes I know it's not original, but it is the one that was already in the car. Is there any reason that I shouldn't use it? They worked OK, but I had the trans out for rebuild and the clutch and pressure plate were scorched so decided to rebuild them while I had the car apart.

They'll work fine. However, since you said that you had them rebuilt, I figured you thought they were original.

OK, I'm going to ask what others , I'm sure, are thinking. What influenced your decision to rebuild vs. replace your clutch components? Chip.

Personally, I would not recommend a rebuilt clutch on anything over 100 HP. Just my .02.

I agree with Paul, when I rebuilt the engine(1960) a couple of years back I installed a LUK diaphragm clutch and do use the "Gorilla" spring and works just fine.
The only issue I have had with the clutch is the bushing on the cross bar to pedal arm, I replaced the rubber one with a oilite bushing.
