    72 Holes ???

There are 2 holes above the fuse block. The larger hole is 1" dia. and the smaller is 3/8" dia. Any one of our good members know what these holes are used for????? Them AIM is not very clear as to what passes through them. Thanks Rey Stenhouse 72 LS-502 Coupe

i think the 1" hole is for the clutch rod and boot assembly

the smaller hole might be for the hood release cable...

    my best guess ...

      Hi Rey,
      Good to talk to you!
I believe the hole for the hood release is higher up the firewall and further to the left.
I believe the small hole is for the rubber plug that secures the left side of the heavy rubber coated firewall insulation blanket. UPC 1 asm, Sheet D9, Item #4.
There's not another hole on my 7,1 so for the larger one?
How close is it to the top of the fuse block?
      Regards,
      Alan

Hi Alan: Yes it's nice to hear from you, we haven't talked I a while!!!The larger hole is +/- 3" above the upper right corner of the fuse block. Bill C. suggested that it might be for the clutch rod, if so I will plug it as mine is an automatic. I think you are correct about the insulation blanket as the are a string of these holes across the firewall all on the same level. all sounds good but will investigate none the less. I tried to enclose some photo attachment but the page would not load!!!!Thanks for the info.

          Re: 72 Holes ???

          Hi Rey,
I believe the majority of the small holes you're seeing that are in a row across the firewall are for the carpet installation plugs. The few holes for the 'blanket' are the ones that are a bit higher up the firewall. The heater box helps hold the 'blanket' in place on the right side.
I'd like to see some pictures of your work!
          Regards,
          Alan
