Can anyone shed light on the difference between a #650 Emergency Brake Flasher and a #642. I understand #650 is for used for years 55 thru 57 and #642 is for years 58 thru 60. I understand the earlier years use a #90 bi-pin bulb with a higher wattage than the later years #53 lower wattage single pin bulb. My question is are the two Flashers interchangable and what happens if you use a #642 Flasher with the #90 single pin bulb? Thanks.

Re: #650 Parking Brake Flasher vs. #642
Ed,
I've never had any luck at finding specs for either the 642 or 650 flashers. Someone told me the 642 was for a small single contact #57 bulb. Don't know what the '57 or '58 emergency brake bulbs are.
However, the ST12 says it's a #90 at 6 candlepower for 1955 to 1959.

Re: #650 Parking Brake Flasher vs. #642
I tried a 650 in my 59 and it wouldn't flash. I'm no electrical expert but I'm assuming that there wasn't enough current draw to heat up the contacts to make it flash. My 642 works great.- Top

Re: #650 Parking Brake Flasher vs. #642
Thanks Gary, it's beginning to look like I need a #650 Flasher to make my #90 bulb flash. I would think a #642 could somehow be reconfigured to work with a #90 bulb. Let me know if you ever hear of someone accomplishing this. Thanks.
