Primary HVAC/electrical and elevator service sounded like it was washed out in the basement... what a mess. Great story of many disciplines and volunteers coming together, something like what is happening at the NCM I imagine. I know a local university has supplied a drone and some expertise, for example, not to mention GM stepping up.
I work/worked (that in itself is a much too long story) for the electric utility. We had an electrical vault on the fourth floor (and many others at other locations in that facility) of a very large candy manufacturing factory. On the fifth floor was a refrigeration facility to cool the candy during manufacture. The refrigeration malfunctioned and in thawing the ice turned to water which proceeded to flow into our fourth floor room. 12Kv got wet. It was a mess, but briefly rather exciting.

Terry, that does sound exiting. 12kV will reach out and touch you for sure. I read too fast and thought you were called in to respond to the museum flooding.

S'OK Dave. I do that too sometimes. In 20+ years on the streets of Chicago I had a number of exciting experiences, but none of them are related to Corvettes -- but I have had a few exciting experiences with those, but all of that is best left for another time and place.

Perhaps I should have been clearer. I related both stories to emphasize that in storing important items (documents or electrical facilities) location is all important. One should also ask 'What is the worst that can happen?' Then prepare for that.

          Dave,

One other idea I've seen in another thread was to simply cut the portion of the tank holding the sticker out, then replace the tank. I thought I would mention it, even though it doesn't sound like you will be installing a new tank.

Thanks Joe, I had considered doing that and will do it if the sticker is in bad shape and I don't think it would survive removal. It is a good idea.

I was the one who mentioned the SAWZ-ALL method of tank sticker removal. The sticker on my 67 L-71 was very legible but seemed well attached to the tank. My feeling was tanks are replaceable but tank stickers are not. I cut a square of the tank off with the sticker attached and have never had second thoughts. Be sure to fill the tanks with water to purge all the fuel out ( and then empty about half the water) before drilling and sawing.
