Can anyone advise on how to tell if a 63 coupe is a factory ZO6 vs. one that has had the ZO6 options added after factory build? Not a tanker car. Were ZO6 cars made in a specific VIN run, or random?Any help appreciated. Do not want to divulge VIN to forum. Thanks,John

As far as I know, there was no VIN series for Z-06. The cars were not built built in a series.
Franz Estereicher has done an immense amount of research on these cars and I think he knows the VIN number of every one built. He'd be a good person to contact if you're serious about this car. I don't know if he's still a member and on the board member list, though.
By the way, probably the most difficult part to find to create a "replica" Z-06 is the Kelsey-Hayes master cylinder. Does the car in question have one?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

on small tank Z06 every part is bolted on, so there is no way to tell if all the correct parts are used.
If the car has a vin before Jan 63 it should be a tank car. After Jan 63 they were run in batches but later vins are random.
NOBODY has GM documents for Z06 vins but many are trying to obtain them from the GM drum campaign. Bob- Top

Bob Jorjorian is exactly right. If a Z06 minus the 36.5 gal tank is built correctly, no one will be able to find evidence that it wasn't born a Z06.
In the 70's, I "created" a Z06 and it has been judged in both major organizations without issue. (yeah, I know, but that was a long time ago)- Top

Re: 1963 zo6
John, It has been said one can build a Z06 car around the correct master cylinder. Like our pals said above if you have a 63 Z06 none tanker than all it takes is a lot of cash to have a look a like Z06 car.
I like to tell the story of the garage full of Z06 brake parts that my Dad sent to the junk yard years ago. Dad did get me fair warning though. No one wanted that stuff in the 60's. All the parts came from Doc Blatchleys race car formally owned by Grady Davis. Done of fans, Drums, backing plates, etc etc.
All melted down because I was too dumb.- Top
