Is this a TFP Briggs & Stratton UA6 Alarm key?

Search did not yield any pics to verify... Does this look like a TFP Briggs & Stratton key for the 1969 through early 1970 UA6 alarm? It fits my alarm key switch which I believe to be original, but I don't know about this key. Thanks-

I don't judge exterior, but I don't think that is an original, Dave.

      Dave,

I have what I "think" is the original key for my alarm and it has Briggs and Stratton on I. I'll post a picture of it when I get home as I would like to know myself it is
      correct or not.

My 70 #11756 had the Briggs and Stratton lock. The key was shaped like that but the wording was different.

            Dave,

That is a very old B&S key design and not correct for 1969-1970, nor for several decades prior to that.

My guess is that it's an ignition key for a VERY old application---maybe as far back as the 20's or 30's.

Re: Is this a TFP Briggs & Stratton UA6 Alarm key?

Dave - As Gary Beaupre indicated this key is an older version Briggs & Stratton, now Stratec, key since it has the BASCO logo on the key head. The UA6 Corvette system came with a similar key with the "BRIGG&STRATTON" logo embossed on one side of the key head & on the other side of the key head the words "BRIGGS & STRATTON CORPORATION MILWAUKEE,WIS.U.S.A." are embossed & the KEY NUMBER is stamped. Typically these keys have KEY NUMBERs with a "C" or "H" prefix for the keyway code followed by a 3 digit number. Pete

Here are pictures of what I believe is the original key to my 71 (Sept 5, 1970 build). I'm interested to know if it is real.

Looks like an original B & S key. My understanding is that the alarm key changed from the B & S key to the ignition key around 1970 MY VIN #11750. I don,t think any 1971 corvettes used that style key.

When it changed from the B&S key it used the round key , the key that was for the spare tire lock and glove box.

The JM gives an approximate VIN of the changeover during 1970 production--12,250.

My car, being a very early 71 build has many "leftovers" from 70. I have no docs on the car as the tank sticker had disintegrated so I can't say if the alarm system was factory installed or possibly dealer installed with some leftover parts.

Lets thicken the plot a bit. Below is a picture of the switch installed in the car. You'll see that the body appears to be drilled for the newer style switch and the switch is installed with some sort of escutcheon to make up the difference in hole size. I suppose I just contradicted myself there. If the body was drilled for the new style switch, then it probably wasn't dealer installed..........

I also found a picture of the alarm horn and the Rockwell fiberglass tag. I don't believe that the back end was ever hit or repaired.

I've only been able to trace the car back two owners. The car was bought off a used car lot in the late 70's so the search stopped there. The NCRS document service turned up nothing as mine is in a group of serial numbers (S/N 1632) for which there is no data.

Ok, for some reason the picture upload is not working this morning....... I'll get the pics up later today

Of the 1970 cars I own the one original low mileage June 1970 car has the same B&S alarm key as yours Tom. It is original and still attached to the tag delivered with the car. The alarm on this car was factory installed. The window sticker, order copy etc. all verify the alarm was ordered.

                              Jason,
Could you give us your VIN so we can use it to add to or verify for the rewrite of the new JG. If you have a June 1970 car it will be in the 12,000 to 14,000 range and that will help with the key change over time frame.
