    1969 Fan Clutch

I have a 350/350 that I am restoring. The fan clutch seems to have some black over spray on the back fins. The date stamped on the hub that bolts to the water pump studs is dated one month before the build date of the car so I guess it is original. I have already cleaned up the clutch and it looks fine. If the clutch is not supposed to have some overspray, it should be easy to remove. If it should have some overspray, I will just leave it and call it good. Thanks for any assistance. Steve

The black over-spray is probably the result of someone "sprucing up" the engine compartment. Used car dealers are wont to do this kind of thing when detailing a car for sale on a used car lot. Once-upon-a-time, this car was just another used car often found on used car lots including, even, "pot lots" (i.e. "buy here, pay here" type of places). It's hard for many folks to think of what we regard today as classic Corvettes being treated in such a "defiling" manner but that's how it was.

I guess I will have some additional question as I go through the restoration. It looks like it has been painted before and the body overspray is probably in places not mentioned in the Technical Manual. Thanks again for getting back to me.Steve
