    63 P/W Conduit

I'm about to start another winter project. I need to paint the P/W conduit. I have not taken the door panel off or removed the screws from the conduit yet.

I'd prefer to remove the conduit from the car and paint it on my bench. I know others have painted it while on the car, seems messy and too much masking.

I see there are three wires on the motor.

The question is, will these three wires easily disconnect from the motor and slide through the conduit to all me to remove the conduit from the car?

    Harry,
There is a round 2-plug connector (similar as on the headlight motor) and a ground wire that are connected to the window motor. After you unplug them, you have to remove the leads from the connectors, so you can pull the leads through the conduit. Make sure you stagger the metal connectors, they will not go through the conduit all bunched up. I usually write down the location of the leads in the round connector, so the switch will work correctly up/dn again.
[** this info is based on 65-67's that I worked on, I assume the 63's are the same.] Hope it helps,
    Marco

snap on makes a neat tool to remove the leads from the plastic connector.mike

        Harry,

Good question. It's sorta the Chicken or the Egg question! Was the conduit on the door when the car was painted? Should have been but the wiring would not have been present.
Anyway the answer to your question is: The plug is like or the same as the one on the headlight motors and will not pull back thru the conduit. You will have to take a sharp skinny tool and unsnap the wire from the plug. There is two to the motor and one to ground on the motor somewhere! Be careful and mark them as you could end up with one window going up and the other going down!!!!!!
Maybe someone such as Mike Hanson who actually worked at St. Louis can answer the other question that I posed!
I know that if the conduit was present during painting you will want to paint it correctly installed on the door!!!!

        Regards,

        JR

          Joe, Mike and Marco.

Thanks for the input. The conduit is to be painted semi-gloss black as it was added after body paint.

Looks like I'll be going through my small screw diver collection.

          Cheers

Harry, That connector tool is a for the smaller electronic weather pack style. If the connector your dealing with is the plastic housing w/ spade style a simple pocket screw driver will work to release the spades. If you have not done this before let me know I will try and explain.

This must be the kit Mike mentioned...

Harry yes that will work. The local discount auto parts stores sometimes have similar tools. I would look there first and maybe even a place like Harbor freight.

                    Harry,

Make sure you unhook the battery first.

Always do, I fried one harness years ago and I learned my lesson well.
