    1963 327/300 thermostat housing confusion

    Hello once again

I noticed that I will have to replace my old thermostat housing, it's completely rusted.

The number on the thermostat housing is GM 3827369 and a B4.

I would like to replace it with a correct one, so I looked in the judging guide and they mention that 1963 thermostat housings should be painted silver with part number 3827370 debossed.

Now I am confused, do I have a wrong housing on it? Which number is correct for a 1963 327/300 (built around June 63)? And should it really be silver? Mine is painted engine orange.

Thank you for any clarification on that topic.

    Regards

    Ruedi

The GM #3827369 is the correct thermostat housing for your 300 HP application. It is painted engine color when the engine is painted.

The GM #3827370 is used for 340 and 360 HP engines. These engines use aluminum manifolds and are, thus, not painted with the rest of the engine. Therefore, the cast iron thermostat housing is painted dull silver to more-or-less match the manifold.

        Edward,

I always thought that was a mold number and not a date but I may be wrong.

I agree. The "B1", "B2", "B3", and "B4" on these thermostat housings (aka water outlets) was not a date code.

I bought a reproduction from Long Island Corvette years ago and it has B1 on it. It is an accurate reproduction and will pass judging.

Bob, Those little suckers aren't cheap either, it's a pretty stout part though.
