    Where does the hose go

I have been having a problem with the "CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT", in my 90 L-98. I have replaced the EGR Valve, and ordered a new EGR solenoid unit. My question is, which vacuum port does the EGR valve connect to. One is plastic the other is brass. Also which wire connects to the solenoid. On the original solenoid, at the location where the wires connect is a "PLUS" sign, on the replacements (2) there is no indicator of plus or minus. Two wires plug into the solenoid, one is grey the other is pink & black. In the shop manual I cannot see where the vacuum lines (2) are placed and the wire orientation on the solenoid. I need expert advise. On the back side of the solenoid is a small plug with a very small hole in it which I think is a pressure relief opening. I received a new solenoid from CC, this one did not have the small hole so I contacted CC and was told there is should be and they asked me to return the unit for an examination and replacement.

Ed, The vacuum connection to the solenoid is a molded rubber connector and should only hook-up one direction, the electrical connector for solenoid only should plug in one direction ,It has slots on the connector that line up with the solenoid so the wires cannot be hooked up wrong.

Ed, I guess my explanation was not clear, I need to know which outlet on the solenoid, plastic or brass, the vacuum hose from the EGR valve plugs into. Second which wire (pink&black or grey) plugs into the electrical plug marked with a plus (+ sign). The possibility exists that whoever wired the solenoid may have reversed the wires.

Ed, If you go to Corvette Central website they have a 84-96 EGR dia. chart and there are some pic.s of the vacuum harness and the wire connector it shows the wire colors and there locations. let me know if you find it.

Ed, thanks for the info. That was exactly what I was looking for. Now I wait for CC to send me the proper EGR solenoid. The info was quit detailed, too bad Chevy could notdo the same in their manuals.

The correct EGR solenoid for your car is GM #1997195, aka Delco 214-340. Unfortunately, it's GM-discontinued. Which one did a GM dealer sell you?

JOE, I ordered one from CC. I had to return the solenoid because it had a configuration error (no small hole in exhaust section) from the vendor. CC is going to replace it. The solenoid that I think defective has DECLO-REMY on the top but I am unable to see any part numbers. I believe this is the original unit. It has a small filter at the point of vacuum release, or exhaust. The replacement unit has no place to fit a filter. CC advised at the point where the original had a filter, there is a very small hole to allow an exhaust point in the solenoid, without filter, this could have been a running change. The EGR Valve is new and so will the solenoid. If my problem still exist I will replace everything and start new.
