I have secured the correct water pump, alternator and idler pulley for my 1964 327 365hp roadster. Now to the belts. I doubt NOS exist and if they do aren't in great shape. What brand should I buy and from where? Goal is to not lose points but have durability as well because I drive the car. Thanks everyone, Michael Kalogridis

Re: Fan, alternator and idler pulley belts.
The Quanta's look great, but I have a problem with their durability. I replaced the belts on my '67 L79 last summer. The power steering belt is fine, but the alternator belt flipped off once, and then broke, all within 500 miles. I replaced it with Gates belt that was on the car when I bought it in 1987, and it is still going strong.- Top

Re: Fan, alternator and idler pulley belts.
I have always liked GATES belts. Checking local auto stores on internet yesterday discovered that the NAPA brand serpentine belt for my 96 Monte Carlo is backed by GATES warranty, so GATES must make the serpentine belt for NAPA. I have GATES belts on my 1968 and 1970 Corvettes purchased many years ago and still in good shape. I will buy the NAPA serpentine belt for my Monte.- Top

Re: Fan, alternator and idler pulley belts.
Use Quanta for judging, since they will judge best, but people report a durability/reliability problem. Use Gates for durability and reliability, but they will you lose points for Gates during judging. Pick your poison.

Re: Fan, alternator and idler pulley belts.
While on the subject of NOS belts, here's three I have; one is #3847702 ('65-7 air conditioning w/Sp.H. Perf); 52.5" x 3/8"; the other two are 3847710 (replaced by 3885047 on 10-67); 53.25" x 3/8"; for '64 and '65 w/C60 exc. Sp. H. Perf, and '66-7 base motor, no air.
My question: what are the 5-0727 [with an added '3 - 3' about an inch to the right] and 5-0757 embossed codes, respectively ? What about the 'TL' ?- Top
