    Eric,

The Black Dist Lead wire connects to the "-" terminal on the coil.

The Black Wiper Ground connects to the Passenger side inner rear valve cover screw.

edit.....If you have a Wonderbar Radio, it's Black ground wire also attaches to that same valve cover screw.

Thanks.. I do have a wonderbar radio so just to confirm there will be two black ground wires ( radio & wiper ground ) attached to the inner rear valve cover

Would that apply to 57's ? I would not think so.

Correct Jerry, the grounding scheme is totally different for '56 & '57.

There is a Cowl Vent Brace Stud that comes through the firewall. The Wiper Motor ground attaches to it. Section 12 Sheet 6(View C) in the AIM shows the stud location. Section 12 Sheet 12 shows the main Black Ground in the harness attaching to the cowl brace.

FOA 102 Radio option Sheet 2 shows the radio mounted and connecting ground of it's case to the Cowl Brace under the dash. This may be how it gets it's ground. I'm not sure if the radio has a separate ground wire attaching to the cowl brace main ground or not. I have a '56 in the shop radio equipped and can take a look later. One of the others more 56/57 knowledgeable may jump in before I get out there.

Jerry, Here's a thread I just searched about grounds that I was in on.

                https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...434#post659434

The main ground for the harness actually connects to the Left(Driver Side) inner valve cover screw. No other grounds go to the VC's.
