    Wheel dates

I have never been good with wheel dates. I have a set of steel wheels that I took off of my 66. they are stamped K19 by one of the lug openings and K 19 7 valve stem and then 17 AG . any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Bill

Bill, the wheels seem to be replacement wheels that you could have brought from GM. The part number ends in 156 or 561 not sure which one is correct. Also, not sure about the numbers you posted as far as dates are concerned.

Thanks there are remnants of Hueastead Chevrolet of Centereach long island inside the wheel just trying to figure out how old they are. I will look further at the tags.

Bill -- The "K" stands for Kelsey Hayes; the "1" is for their Romulus MI plant; the "9" is for 1969 (or maybe even 1979 if an over-the-counter purchase, and if they were still making them then); the "7" is for month of July; [valve stem]; the "17" is 17th day of July; the "AG" is the letter code of the wheel, 15 x 7 JJ, which you will find repeated on the inside (pressure chamber) of the wheel, along with a repeat of the K, the 1, the 9. Also, as you mention, the K19 appears on one of the raised nubs between the wheel stud holes. [decoding thanks to A. Colvin book.]

These are 1968 Corvette style wheels.

            Re: Wheel dates

The K 1 9 7 17 AG decodes K= Kelsey-Hayes, 1= the Romulus MI plant, 9= the last digit of the year of manufacture which is 1969, 7= the month of manfacure in this case July, 17= the day of manufacture again is this case the 17th, AG designates a 1968 Corvette only 15x7 rally wheel. The '68 15x7 Rally wheel difffers from all other 15x7 Rallies in the the offset is deeper allowing it to use the same beauty ring as the '69 thru '82 Corvette 15x8.

So you have a service replacement Rally wheel for a 1968 Corvette made July 17, 1969.
