Re: 66-67 Powerglide Linkage Metal & Rubber Shield
The flap goes outboard and forms a seal (of sorts) against the floor pan fiberglass. These pics taken with splash shield removed. I routed the speedo cable under the flap, but not sure this is correct.- Top

It's shown in your Assembly Manual, in section M35, sheet A13.- Top

Some of these shields were "dealer installed". I remember doing installations.
Think there may have been a safety campaign. Can't locate it at this writing.

I remember either a TSB or an Engineering Service Letter that described its addition on all car lines with Powerglide to avoid a buildup of frozen snow/slush on the kickdown rod that could prevent the throttle from returning to idle after a WOT blast in passing gear. The MVSS laws didn't exist yet - in our terms, it would have been called a "safety recall".- Top

I recall a TSB also, but I can not recall the year. If 1967 I should have included it in the scans I sent to Nick for the new 1967 TIM&J. Since I don't have a finished copy I don't know if it made the cut.Terry- Top

Gentlemen;
Do you think we will eventually have a start date on which these shields were installed at St. Louis ?And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

The A.I.M. sheet for the '66 was released on April 28, 1966, and detailed instructions on the staple installation were included in NPC (Notice of Production Change) #C66-307, so the shield was definitely in production before the end of the '66 model year, and continued into the '67 model year.- Top

Re: 66-67 Powerglide Linkage Metal & Rubber Shield
Unless I've missed it upon several reviews, nothing shows up within the various 1967 service documents currently in my possession.
If someone has an original unmolested 67 M35 car with the shield installed, please post or send clear photos. I had a fairly original M35 car many years back and do not recall the shield...- Top

Re: 66-67 Powerglide Linkage Metal & Rubber Shield
Thanks John. That is why I didn't pick up (as I have been informed) the TSB for the 1967 manual. I will look in my earlier files, however I very much doubt there will be a serial number change point. Since it applied to many Chevrolet models giving production change points would have involved considerable work. We might however get a date, but even that might be a stretch. At least your post should satisfy the 1967 Powerglide owners.Ray -

Edit add: John I am still working on your 67 Camaro tech stuff. I had a computer turn to a brick last Fall and I am still int he process of recovering stuff. I haven't forgotten my commitment to you. i will get it done.Terry- Top
