    Tom:

Not certain about "the second number" you mentioned. The only NAPA number I know of and can personally vouch for is the TEM 207342.

The TXV screens on Ebay are available for about $12 each shipping included. As a matter of fact, I just purchased two more of the Delco 15-512 from Ebay to add to my AC parts inventory…………just in case someone needs one down the road. Here is the link to the site I used. They (screens) should arrive at my garage later this week http://www.ebay.com/itm/330960111426...S:1120&vxp=mtr

Unfortunately they currently show "out of stock - discontinued" and no inventory. Can't help Tom or others. You might have bought their last one.

OK, now that my new screens have arrived, the obvious question is... where do they go?

The AC system on my car as well as Dad's 72 have been open for years, so I don't know where the screen should be inserted.

            Thanks!

              Tom,
I want to make sure the screen topic is pretty much closed before commenting on your A/C system being open to the atmosphere for so long.
Are you starting out with purging the system with nitrogen of a similar product to clean out all the garbage. Evacuate the system down first if you can. Removing any moisture in the system, if you can, before trying to clean it out.

Another topic: When I have my pump out, I vacuum out my main air lines and compressor at the same time. The air lines in my garage/outside are all copper. Even with filter and such, they sometimes get quite a bit of water in them. Just an idea of one more thing to do on that list. Remove regulators and filters before vacuuming out your lines.

I always vacuum out my lines before painting a car or anything else big.

              Best of luck,

              Monte

                Re: '72 POA valve installation

Patrick on my 1970 the screen fits in the expansion valve. The attachment connection on the expansion valve where the line from the condenser attaches to the expansion valve is removed and the small debris catching screen fits in the expansion valve. If the removed filter screen has desiccant particles in it the desiccant blocking the flow of R12 the receiver/dryer will require replacement. The condenser will need a flushing from the receiver/dryer to the expansion valve if desiccant is in the expansion valves filter screen.
My service manual shows a nice picture of the expansion valve and filter screen in the air conditioning section.

                  Jim,
How do you get the screen out? I have mine ('69) open and can't get a tool on the screen to pull it out. Could you post a picture of the page in your service manual that shows this? My manual does not have this pictured nor does the GM parts catalog I have (or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place). Thanks!

Here's a picture from my '73 service manual. I used a pic to get it out, but you have to be very careful not to damage it if you are going to use it again.

You could use an easy out. Screw it in gently and pull it out.

                        Re: '72 POA valve installation

I ordered one of the screens from the e-bay link, will hopefuly arrive today. I'm going to get my repro hose end crimped today and I should be set.

Monte, The evaporator, TXV and condenser have been flushed with this: http://www.nucalgon.com/products/tsp/rx11-flush expensive stuff but effective. All mineral oil has been removed so as not to cause miscibility problems with the new oil since all other components are new or rebuilt. I'm confident that the system is cleaned up and ready to be evacuated and charged once the screen arrives and I can assemble everything. I've been at this a/c thing, on a commercial level, for some time so I'm in good shape, thanks.

Jeffery I just got back on here, however I would or recommended the same tool as Tom Larson, a easy out to grip it. Should not be to hard to pull out. It was long time ago when I removed my 70's screen in 1988.

Larry, I received the NOS screen from the source you referenced but it doesn't fit into the valve. I measured the ID of the valve port, rather crudely, by slipping the shank end of drill bits into the valve inlet. The largest size that would fit was 11/64". I used my drill sizing tool to check the size of the screen, it measured 13/64". I used a piece of thin stock to try to push it in but no luck. Have you found this with the ones you got? I'm wondering if the valve I have has been changed but it appears original. Especially since It took days of soaking in Kroil to get the nut loose. I attached a pic of the valve inlet. Perhaps you can shed some light on this. Thanks!!Tried to upload a pic but my new Windows 8 computer won't let me!! Not loving this thing!!!

                                Tom:

I don't know what to tell you. The old stock DELCO #15-512 TXV screens we purchased should fit all original GM Harrison/Delco thermal expansion valves from 1963 thru 1972. This is according to old AC DELCO Parts Books that I have, and also according to my old GM Corvette Parts Books for the early year C2 and C3 cars (GM Part # 5914631). Similar TXV screens (with same part numbers) have fit the expansion valves I have serviced. I don't have a spare TXV available to test what we just purchased, but the ones I got were in factory sealed envelops. Did you get the same ones?? They were purchased on Ebay and were from a place called Gearheads up in New Hampshire.

I will try and find the old ones I have boxed up in the garage and compare sizes/dimensions. I will let you know what I find.

Is it possible that your car has a non-OEM replacement expansion valve?? There should be some pictures in the archives of OEM GM/Harrison TXV valves to compare to.

Wish things had turned out better for you…….both on this and on the evaporator core.
