I have a 62 Vett I inherited from my father-in-law. He had the car since 1974 and he bought it from the original owner. He has always told me it was a #'s matching car but I have a few questions. I have the VIN# on the steering column and it is correct for a 62 model but the #'s I have found on the block are not what I expected to find. The block #'s are CE8 6193 the best I can tell but I don't know what they stand for. This is stamped on the front of the block on the passenger side. Can someone tell me if I am looking in the wrong place or what these block #'s stand for? I would appreciate any help being I am new to the C1 community.

Re: 62 vin
CE stands for "Chevrolet engine" which means it is a replacement block. It is not the original. All is not lost, however, because it still can be a very nice car. What are the numbers/dates on the heads, intake, carb, generator, etc. that will help determine if it was simply a changed-out block or much more.- Top
