Re: Coil Bracket from ??
The cut lower corner of the near tang shown in the side photo is necessary for clearance with a 67 427 3 carb manifold. I don't know if any other engine required this configuration.- Top

Ray-------
I wonder if the "bulge" at the resistor tab was always there. Notice how the "bulge" above the tab is greater than that below. I don't see how or why it could have been manufactured this way. Also note that the bracket appears somewhat distorted on the left side.
If it was created the way it appears now, then I don't think it was used for a Corvette application and perhaps not even a Chevrolet application. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Coil Bracket from ??
Ray,
I did some research on Chevrolet ignition coil brackets several years ago using all my many vintage Chevrolet parts catalogs (Gr. 2.183). There were many variations of these brackets. I have collected about 12-15 of these brackets but have yet to find the box of them in my garage. I know that I do not have one like yours with the "bulge" but it might be one of the ones listed in the two pages below. I know that it is not a 1943712, 1966876, 1970344, or 1971011 bracket based on my research.

Re: Coil Bracket from ??
It could be that this configuration results when someone tries to "reconfigure" a coil bracket to fit a coil with a smaller OD than the bracket was originally designed for. I suppose it's also possible that it was a bracket configuration actually designed for a coil with a smaller OD but I don't know of any GM coils that were smaller and, if there were, I don't think GM would have designed a bracket like this one for such a coil. Plus, as I mentioned previously, I really don't think it would have had the different "bulges" top and bottom as seen in this bracketIn Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
