    Bowling Green May Strike

Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant Workers Authorize a Strike
Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant Workers Authorize a Strike

    April 9, 2014

WDRB 41 out of Louisville, Kentucky is reporting that the workers of the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant have voted and authorized a strike in light of yesterday's news in The Tennessean Newspaper that the workers were being mistreated.

According to WDRB and The Tennessean, the workers are upset with mistreatment, safety conditions and quality control within the plant.

Eldon Renaud, the head of UAW Local 2164 told WDRB that there have been several near-misses within the plant that could have led to serious injuries to the workers. If negotiations between the UAW and management prove to be beneficial and agreeable to the UAW, a strike at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant could be avoided.

We'll keep our members updated as we receive news on these developments.

Unless you're a union member. Then it's the BEST possible time to threaten a strike.

A minor correction. The UAW membership voted only to authorize a strike should things come to that. It is my understanding discussions are still underway and no actual work stoppage has occurred.

perfect timing we find out government motors got out of general motors just before we find out that cobalts are killing people and now the vette will be out of production unless the auto maker gives in to demands of the workers. by the way I am a member of a union

Key word is "authorized". I worked for AT&T and before that when it was Pacific Bell. Everytime contract negotiations came up we always authorized a strike, that's just SOP. I think we actually only went on strike once or twice.

I agree. Could be a "Who Will Blink First" thing.

That's a standard part of the "huffing and puffing" that goes on during negotiations; in the 40's and 50's, it was intended to build public support for the poor, abused, and downtrodden workers. In this day and age, the UAW would probably be better off to skip this hackneyed tactic, as nobody with any brains is going to believe anything they have to complain about.

who cares about the strike, the real issue here is safety of the workers, car not being made is nothing, people need to get their priorities straight IMO.
