Need help with '66 knock off wheel cone

One of the cones on my '66 coupe has a slightly smaller diameter than the other three. It would be logical to assume that that one cone has been replaced, but which is correct? The wheels are original KH wheels, correctly dated for the car.

And where would one find the "correct" cone?

    Thanks,

    Bob

I believe your first picture is the correct one. Judging guide says the distance from the fin to the edge of the cone should be 1/8 inch. The other is most likely a repo.

Here's 2 pics of original '66s (cones never been off) beside same 2 views of a set of Western-KHs.

There's also another parameter; the gap between the top of the cone and the spinner, the result of the different radius of the lip (or something else in that area.

Wayne, It looks like according to your originals that the judging guide isn't correct in it's statement that there should be an 1/8 inch gap between the cone and the fins as yours look to be closer to 1/4 inch.

Thanks, guys - it's hard to tell any other differences with the wheels mounted. I'm going to pull them off next week to redo brake calipers and I'll do some additional measurements then.

Russ --- I guess it depends on how you define the points of measurement. I selected a screwdriver blade that just touched the edge of the cone and the edge of the fin where the machined flat ends. I get 0.21" (caliper). Then, continuing down the un-machined "ramp" of the fin to its root, where it "melds" into the center hub, I get 0.135". So, roughly, yes, 1/4" and 1/8", depending on how you define the points of measure.

This is on an original '66 stamped B_1_3_66. Here's another pic that might help.

Re: Need help with '66 knock off wheel cone

Now that I have the wheels off the car, I have measured the larger diameter of the two cones - the larger is 7 1/8", and the smaller is 6 15/16". When on the wheel, the gap between the cone and the end of the fin measures .130" which is consistent with the judging manual. So I have three cones that are the correct size, and one that is 3/16" smaller. You would think that you would not notice the difference, but it is very obvious.

Now where would I find a cone that will match the other three?

              Would appreciate any advice -

              Bob
