1963 Correct Baseplate for an Early Built Fuel Injected Car

Car was built October 13, 1962 but not sure what style baseplate is correct regarding the Winters Snowflake location.

There were 3 types used in 63 but not sure which of the first two I need. Based on the date of the car should it be the one with the single snowflake in the middle of the plenum under the spider or should it be up front between the legs of the plennum?

I have the early FI unit witht the partially exposed threads that hold the nozzles (see Noland Adams, page 139 Vol2) however the base plate has the snowflake up near the thermostat housing which is the third style used for the late 63's and 64's.

How can I sort this out?

    Thanks...

Rich, your car would most likely have had the Winters snowflake between the plenum legs.

Pilot cars had the center snowflake. Reportedly, some very early cars may have had it there too, but by car 618 (before yours) it was between the plenum legs. I have three baseplates, from November to April, and all of them have the snowflake between the legs, so the thermostat area snowflake came later than April.

You probably need to find a different baseplate to go with that early plenum.

My current baseplate is dates 3/25/63 and has the snowflake near the thermostat hosuing.

What are you thoughts on a nice baseplate (snowflake between front legs) but the thin ribs in the 4 ports have been removed? Does that impact perfromance?

The early baseplates are hard to come by it seems.

There was thread (a while back) on the the other forum about just such a baseplate. I believe the only person who had experience with a baseplate with the ribs missing said that he had flooding problems with it... If you don't already own it, I wouldn't buy it...

Good baseplates come up for sale on eBay occasionally, usually about $500-800. I'd wait.

Great news, I was finally able to get a FI baseplate dated 9/62 for my 10/13/62 built FI SWC car...

Question, how do you restore the finish on top without sand or bead blasting?

For comparison, this one is dated 9 - 20- 62. Seems to be pretty early, but I don't know the serial number of the car it came from..[IMG][/IMG]
