    65 wheel question.

Will this wheel fit a 65 Corvette?

    15 X 6, KH91267 info on label.

Stamp at valve stem K191 12 stem 11.

    Stamped inside wheel: D 20 11 27 15 X 6 JJ K191

    Thanks,
    Bruce B

    Bruce,

Is there another number on the label that starts with the letter "X" (example "X-40020")?

I do not have a Kelsey-Hayes/GM conversion chart but the wheel is dated 1991, December 11th near the valve hole (and November 27, 1991 on the inside). There usually is a 2-letter or 3-letter stamped code to the right side of the valve hole after the day code. A "UN" stamping would be on a 15" X 6" wheel from a 83-90 Chev. S10 (2WD).

Is the bolt circle 4 3/4"? What is the backspacing measurement or offset? The 65-66 Corvette 15" X 5 1/2" Corvette wheel has an offset of 7/16" with a backspacing of about 3 3/4".

What is the diameter of the hub hole. I believe that the hub hole on GM wheels made in the 1990's were not round.

BTW, I have a nice 15 X 6 JK wheel from a 1970 Chevrolet Station Wagon stamped "K 3 9" and "11 (valve hole) 16 DL" (dated November 16, 1969) that has a backspacing that measures about 3 7/16" (offset is 1/16") with a 4 3/4" bolt circle and 2 25/32" dia. hub hole. A set of these wheels will fit on 65-66 Corvettes.

      Re: 65 wheel question.

      Dave,
      Thanks for the response.
I took the wheel and tried it on my 65 coupe and it fit fine, my concern was clearing the disc brakes.
The wheel has 4 3/4" bolt pattern, a approx. 2 3/4" center hole and 4 1/8" back spacing.
I have attached some pictures of the numbers, as you can see the wheel is pretty new as it has a bar code label.

        Re: 65 wheel question.

        Bruce,

The X-40391 (KH 91267) wheel is listed for 77-90 Chevrolet full size models (as well as other GM models) that were issued 15" X 6" wheels. My Chevrolet parts catalogs lists wheel # 331427 for 77-79 Chevrolet B models w/15X6 wheels and wheel # 9590597 for 80-90 Chevrolet B models w/15X6 wheels. GM # 331427 was replaced with GM # 9590597 as per GM Parts History. The offset of the X-40391 wheel would be approximately 0.62+/-" (4.125 - 3.50+/-") based on your backspacing measurement. The 65-66 Corvette wheels have a 0.44" offset (15 X 5.5 and 15 X 6L).

By using 4 of these X-40391 (KH 91267) wheels on a 65-66 Corvette the front and rear axle tracks (C/L wheel to C/L wheel) would decrease slightly (56.8" to 56.44+/-" on the front and 57.6" to 57.24+/-" on the rear).

        Dave
