    Starter Solenoid 1114362 for 70 LT1

I recently purchased an NOS solenoid 1114362. Can it be tested before installation so that the whole starter assembly doesn't have to be removed a second time if it doesn't work? Also does it need to be adjusted once installed and what is the procedure? Thanks, Fred S. 11358

    Fred------

If it's an NOS solenoid, I don't think you need to be very concerned that it won't work when installed. No adjustment is necessary before or after installation.

Fred, do you mind sharing where you bought it and whether you recommend that source? I need a solenoid AND a starter. And an alternator 1970 #5864 LS5. Thanks for any recommendations.

Joe, It's been sitting around for 44 years, has some surface rust and looks to be intact.... but I just thought that I would hook up a battery and see if the solenoid would energize and move the plunger....I'm just not sure of the connections....center post is battery....right post is switch and left post is R which goes to positive side of coil.....suggestions? Thanks, Fred

Dave, I found the solenoid on EBay...seller was "alongthelinega"....I just checked his listing again but it doesn't appear that there are any vette solenoids or starters now. There is another seller listing a complete starter 1108338...check it out ...I think that there may be others. Regards, Fred

Even though it's been sitting around and unused for 44 years, I think it will still work fine. The main thing that solenoids suffer from is deterioration of the contacts due to long use. Yours should be perfect. However, if you wish to test it I don't think it will be too difficult. You'll need to install it on the starter, though. Then, I think all you need to do is establish a ground to the solenoid frame and apply battery voltage to the "S" terminal. That should deploy the plunger. I've never actually done this, though, so I'm not 100% certain on this procedure.

                Joe,
I tested the assembled solenoid/starter per your instructions and it did activate the plunger and pinion....thanks for the help. Fred S. 11358
