The Green Monster came to our track and performed just so so until my Air Force mechanic buddy stepped in and identified their problem as rusty buckets. A little clean up and sand paper had that jet engine running much better.

Stu, Here in New England we've got a green monster and were just looking for home runs. And once in a while they get rusty, they'll just as well kick the bucket to.

Here's the Allison-powered Green Monster most folks remember, shot by me at the Akron Drag Strip in October, 1957; also pictured is the Green Monster I, which most folks have never seen - it was not much more than a reinforced go-kart chassis with a transversely-mounted inverted six-cylinder Ranger aircraft engine, with chain drive. Went like hell, would scare you to death. Art's feed mill was about a mile up the road from the strip.
