    C2 Heater box and Interior cover panel question

    Hello,
    I've had my early '63 coupe since 1988 when I bought it all taken apart. I spent the next several years restoring it and it's been finished since.
    I never installed the driver's side interior heater cover panel as it didn't fit. My car isn't matching #'s and I suspect since there are many '65 parts
    installed, that the heater box is a '65 as well. I'm preparing the car for sale and have a problem.

    Here's my issue:
    The driver's side interior panel won't fit due to an elongated square duct that sticks out too far to accept the panel. I've attached a picture of this as well as a 2nd picture showing the 2 panels that I have, both for the driver's side. In the picture, the panel on the right came with the car many years ago but doesn't fit (due to the duct). The one on the left is new as I've recently purchased from LI Corvette thinking that I had a '65 heater box and that this would in fact fit. I've painted it to "match", however it won't fit due to the above mentioned issue. I was about to cut off about an inch from the duct that was keeping this panel from slipping into place but thought to post here first in hopes of getting some accurate information as to what is wrong here and figure out the best way to correct the problem.

    Any help would be much appreciated.

      Jeff, The 63 y-duct for the lower heater is a one yr only part. As you see the side panel will not mount on the drivers side, What you can do is cut the front duct so its even with the other duct and this will let the side panel mount. All the parts for 63 heater boxes are one year only parts. By the way the radio side panel for 63 is the one on the right.

          Hello Ed, thanks for your post.
          Are you saying that I actually DO have a '63 heater based on the picture I've posted? If so, why would I need
          to cut the duct for the panel (the one on the right) to fit,...assuming it came off the car originally? Also, it seems
          to be the duct that's closer to the firewall is the longer one and it extends further out towards the gas pedal than the front one.
          While I've had the car both assembled and disassembled as purchased back in '88, the panel has never been on the car.

              Jeff, The y duct is your pic. is for 64-67. You'll have to modify the one you have to make work. Take it off and saw of the rear snout that is extended on the drivers side, This will at least work and you will be able to install the radio side panel.

                  Ed,
                  Thanks so much for the info,..I'll do that (will probably leave in place and cut with my Multimaster .
                  This makes sense now as I thought all along that I had a '65 heater box.
                  I'll cut off that longer section and install the '63 panel.

                      Jeff you might want to remove the y-duct, As the duct is only held in with a couple if screws and the fiberglass mountings may break easily.
