Correct Position of C3 Trim Tag?

In my search to acquire an early C3, I have seen a few cars on which the trim tag is shifted toward the outside of the jamb, and the edges are bent along the contour of the jamb (see example in picture below). Some more so than others.

Is this a production variation, or possibly an indication that the trim tag has been removed and / or replaced?

Most other cars I have seen have the trim tag positioned further towards the inside of the jamb, and lie completely flat against the jamb, which I would think was correct.

I would really appreciate some input on this point to help in my assessment of potential cars to purchase.

Is there anything else relative to the trim tag that I should be on the lookout for?

    Thank you.

For at least the 1968 and 1969 model years the trim tags with bent corners are very common. Both my 68 and 69 are similar to your picture.

Your picture shows one of the unusual trim tag variations for the 1968 year. You can see the incomplete stamping of the letter "o" in two spots in the word corporation. Not all 68 tags had it, but many did.

THANKS If I looked at a C-3 with a trim tag like that I would have been very suspect.

I have wondered about bent corners as well, this one must have been after the 3 beer lunch. Another interesting detail is that "G" (Feb 69) looks like "C". I would bet this is original, as no one in their right mind would fake Riverside Gold with a vinyl Saddle interior ;-)

The sole difference between the G and the C in this application (early C3) is the distance between the legs on the right hand side of letter. It is regularly a trap for the less experienced. I have seen 1968 and early 1969 trim tags that are partially covered by the weather strip here as well. Just more fun heading west.

There is a note in the 1968-69 and 1970-72 JGs warning that a G can be misread as a C on the trim tag.
