C4 ABS light
Anyone have a recommendation on finding out about the ABS light on a 1989 C4. Mine is on and the dealer has no way to read or reset the codes. The car has only 12000 miles on it and I have no one in the San Antonio Texas area to look at it. I would like some help.

Some dealer service departments won't even accept a car older than 10 years for most repair work. Yours is 25 years old.
One thing you need to do is obtain a factory service manual for the car. That might help diagnose the problem. Some aftermarket scan tools will also diagnose ABS problems but I'm not sure that any will work for vehicles as old as 1989.
One more fundamental problem: if you can get the malfunction diagnosed, the chances are very great that there will not be parts available to repair it (in fact, that's one of the reasons that dealers will often not take in for repair cars over 10 years old).In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

Jeffery, E-mail the Texas chapter and see if someone has a Tech 1. The chapter might know a dealer or shop that can see what your abs light is for. This should not be a big problem.DaveComment

Jeff,
Check the third brake light bulb to see if it (or one of possibly 2 bulbs) is burned out. I have seen late 80's & early 90's cars that will disarm the abs and throw the light is burned out.John Seeley

In the past with my 94 if I had it jacked up in the air with one corner higher then the other for a extended part of time my service ABS light would come on for a while then go off by it selfComment
