1966 Front Springs - Identification and Application

I have a 66' L 79 w/Air, all original configuration. I have always understood the Air' cars had a stiffer' front spring set up. However, I just completed a spring replacement - my original spring has the Green Tag' - mine was ED' and 3851100 which according to GM Parts reference is the base' spring. As an aside, I ordered a specific spring set based on a stiffer spring specification (3999251) which is shown for Air' cars. The coil count is 10 vs 12 for the original springs. My question is - is this common or did the factory get it wrong? (the car is a June build) Anybody have similar' experiences? Bill Syblon

Bill --- I'm no '66 expert, but your original 3851100 was probably correct, for air small blocks and non-air 327's alike. My GM parts catalogs show show the 3888251 as 427 with air. Back in the '63-64 era, there was a different spring for C60 cars.
