Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
Most of us oldtimers learned this lesson years ago. I saw a C-2 that was next to me at Bloomington do that. It had a perfect ring on the top of the hood. You can buy covers for all sizes of chrome air cleaner lids.65 350 TI CONV 67 J56 435 CONV,67,390/AIR CONV,70 454/air CONV,

I always laughed at those funny looking covers on the air cleaners, including just placing a dish towel on it, during shows. But they do the job.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
Yeah, when I started going to car shows in my younger days, it always frustrated me that these Corvette owners RUINED their engine compartment by putting a stupid towel on top of their beautiful engine. Come on!!!! Show off that beautiful engine and that beautiful chrome air cleaner!!! I just assumed they were wiping down their cars and got lazy and threw the towel on top of the engine. Then I noticed that virtually EVERY SINGLE Corvette was like that and knew it couldn't be a coincident.
BTW, Matthew, so sorry you had that experience. I know what it's like to fixate on a negative like that. Welcome to the NCRS and enjoy your car!- Top

Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
Michael,
First and foremost, welcome to NCRS and this wonderful hobby of ours. Secondly, be thankful it's only a few bubbles in the paint...as painful as it feels right now, that hood can be fairly easily fixed (though, it will lighten your wallet a bit). Could have been much worse.Leif

Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
I appreciate to welcomes. Glad to be here. I'm going to view those bubbles on my car as a reminder that I still have much to learn. And then, when they finally are driving me too crazy, I guess I'll think about getting the hood repainted. Have people had good experiences with matching color in the past? Mine is Nassau Blue.- Top

Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
Unfortunately, it is hard to match original paint for a variety of reasons including inability to get same type of lacquer, the metallic flecks being different now versus then, fading of paint especially on horizontal surfaces, etc. Heavy metallics like that Nassau Blue only make it more challenging. Beautiful color though. Is the paint original or has it maybe been repainted with newer products?
Search the threads and archives as there has been lots of discussion on this topic. Some experts out there that can certainly help. Hopefully somebody chimes in the name of the NCRS paint expert who's name escapes me at the moment.- Top

Re: Mysterious Paint Bubbles on Hood
Paint is not original, but the job is excellent. I'm not going to worry about this for a while. I want to drive this car a bit, and I'm guessing that means I'll pick up a scratch and nick here and there. Maybe repaint down the line.- Top
