Bubba clipped the wires that feed the thermal limiter, superheat switch and compressor on my car at the harness. I've been looking for that part the harness for a while with no luck. While searching I've seen that some of the reproduced Packard connectors have GM part numbers. Does anyone know what the part number for the Thermal limiter connecter might be? (Joe L. ??) I thought perhaps a number might help in the search. Thanks!!

Re: Packard connector part number question
Tom,
I can't help witht he number, but those superheat switches were not uncommon across the GM line. Neither you nor I live in a part of the country where 1970s era cars are still in salvage yearde, but there are some parts of the country where they are. Perhaps a road trip might be in your future.Terry- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
I believe the part number for that part, (one way to mate to the pin on the overheat switch) was 6288440, later replaced by 12004821. NEITHER of these had the part number on the connector, both used Terminal part number 08911072.Bill Clupper #618- Top

I cannot find that either GM #6288440 or 12004821 were ever available in SERVICE. They might have been PRODUCTION-only.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
Very likely so. My former employer had a three inch thick handbook of items we produced that wound up in the wiring systems of GM cars, and very few ever madebit into the Dealership parts system...My last job was managing the group that did the design work for new parts each model year.Bill Clupper #618- Top

There might be a PIGTAIL currently available from GM/Delco which includes this connector. However, I am not familiar enough with the configuration of this connector to identify it.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
Dick, any help in finding one? I've looked at my FLAPS and been bouncing this off of others looking for the same part on the CF. This is the first I've heard of a replacement, correct or not, for the thermal limiter. Thnaks!- Top

What is the general configuration of this connector? Is it a single contact connector or does it have 3 parallel contacts (i.e. - - - )?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
It's the same basic configuration as the 3 wire connector on the wiper motor but has a plastic hook of sorts that is used to clip it onto one of the refrigerant tubes. I found these http://pcsconnectors.com/2984959.aspx and it will likely function fine. I was hoping to find the one with the clip, probably a witch hunt. Thanks!- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
Tom,
If I am not mistaken, you are talking about your 72. If I have the right connector in mind, it has two tabs/clips on the ends that hold it to the sensor. It also has two raised bars on one side to hold a clip that clips it to a vacuum holes or line of some kind. It has three prongs running long ways.
I can take a picture of it when I get home if there is any question if it is the correct one or not.
If that is the one you are looking for, I have two old wiring harness in a box tucked away. Twenty five years ago a lot of cars went through my garage that needed electrical work. I bought a few harness to steal wires from so the repairs I did at least looked correct. I used to buy and sell a lot of early C-3's back then.
The reason I bring this up is, if that is the correct connector, I may have one on one of those old wiring harnesses. If I do not have one, by chance, that is who you might ask. Someone that has an old harness or a car they are parting out.
Am I talking about the same connector as the one you are looking for?

If this is the connector, I cannot find that GM ever had available such a part separately in SERVICE, with or without the clip. Is the clip an integral part of the connector (i.e. not readily removable)? In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Packard connector part number question
Yup, that's the one. tried finding someone on the cf that had an old harness, in fact there are a few people looking for one. I've had no luck and I might just get the one I posted earlier. It will function fine until I become motivated to tear the dash apart and replace the harness. A job I've done more than I'd like. BTW, I temped the wires to the compressor after I weighed in the refrigerant in and the systems seems to run nice. Haven't put a gauge on it though. Once I get the wiring in I'll go through that and check the temps as well. Almost done with that mess. Wasn't fun, too many unexpected roadblocks.- Top
