What would be better for maximum judging points? I have two owners manuals. My original heavily is worn, with water damage and folded pages, but has intact Corvette News Card. I found another original a few weeks ago that is in excellent condition, but has no corvette news card and does not look like it ever did have one. Both are 2nd printing which is correct for my july car.

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
20140606_071813.jpg I just noticed that my original has part number 3955549 and the other manual I bought shows 3955551. Is this a service manual?- Top

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
I don't have the AIM handy but it lists the part number of an original. (Joe will know it.)
You would lose some (not total) for not having an original manual and probably some condition on the original one. The point loss should be about the same, just in different columns. If you look at the point total, it is one point for each item and some judges are lenient.
As an interior judge, I would like to see the original one. I look forward to seeing your car in KC.- Top

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
I'm resurrecting this thread because I can't find information on early '69 Owners Manuals. My Oct '68 build car came with an old/worn owners manual but I'm pretty sure it's an old reproduction - part # 3955551, Dec 1968. Obviously this couldn't have come with my Oct '68 car (unless GM had a problem printing owners manuals in late '68). The AIM only lists part number 3955551 (2nd Edition) and there is no revision note for the manual. My questions are:
1) what was the part number for early '69 cars (perhaps 3955551, 1st Edition?)
2) What was the revision date for the version of manual that came with early '69 cars?
3) Did the early '69 edition manuals include the Corvette News card?

You would need a first edition OM for a car built that early.
All original Corvette OM's would have a Corvette News card. Most only have the stub remaining.- Top

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
Dave,
Where there any noticeable differences between the 1st and 2nd edition manuals?
- Were they the same part number?
- What was the revision date of the 1st edition manual?

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
The first edition is part number 3955548. First editions never have revision dates.
The second edition is part number 3955549 and is dated Dec 1968.
The Helm, Inc. re-issues are pare number3955551. They may or may not have Corvette News cards. I'm not sure.
Honestly I'm not sure about the specific differences between first and second edition OM's. One would have to compare them side by side and I've never done that.
It could be that there are manuals with 548 and/or 549 that are repros made by someone other than Helm.
Get yourself a nice first edition with 1/2 card. It will look just right.- Top

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
I would then guess this is a pic of a reprint of the first edition. Notice the part number - 3955550

Re: 1969 Owners manual for maximum judging points
Here is my early 69 Owner's Manual. It has another part number lined out under which says PART NO. 3955550 (Service).
It is not original to my car (Oct 68) and I am not sure how this was distributed, with the new car or early over the counter.
Also a picture of a late 69 Owner's Manual- Top
