Found engine stamp. New to me 70 LS-5

I just bought this 1970 LS-5 about a month ago.

When looking at the car it appeared the engine pad was completely blank and it had a thick coating of paint on it.

So I negotiated buying the car with the understanding that the pad was blank.

This weekend I was able to remove the paint and I got a great surprise!!!!

Found that the pad was not completely decked but still had the data on it.

    T 1211 CZU ( which I understand to mean December 11th 1969, 454 390 hp MT

In the pic the first (1) one is hard to see and the (2) two is clearly visible with the naked eye. I guess not all the stamp had exactly the same strike pressure.

The VIN part is not easily seen so I will have to go back get better lighting and camera. Perhaps with a good magnifying glass and a decent camera I can get a pick.

I'm very excited to also find out that my car was built on the very first day of production.

      Don,

Great news about a great car! BB convertible w/air! Nice color combo to boot!

Now check that vin derivative! Chances are it's the original block!

My bb is a 71 but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

      Also, first day anomalies!

          Terry;

thanks for this news. I sure hope something is there. Attached is the only pic I have of that area before I did some cleaning. Can you point out exactly where to look? The engine had some heavy paint applied so it might be covered over if there.

If I had some kind of arrow program I could, but then I would have to re-post the picture, and I have been banned from posting pictures, except through a third-party account.

Behind the oil pressure brass 45* fitting about an inch or two, where the reverse lockout cable crosses the rear of the block.

              Don

I've put a green box around the flange that is used as the alternate vin location.

Guys!!!! It was there!!! In the Tech Info book it said that in the very first few days of production the Alt Location for the Vin Derivative was used. Which is above the oil filter on the back area of the block. I was able to get my car on lift and even before I cleared some paint I could see it. So that clinches it. I have got myself a genuine "born with" numbers matching Big Block car!!!

Congratulation, Donald. Nice detective work...the more you dig, the more you will be excited about what you have bought and, more importantly, will enjoy.
