I finally upgraded my 10 year old flip phone to a LG/Verizon cell phone a few months ago. I have transferred all of my photos taken on the phone camera to my HP Laptop and when I upload ANY to a TDB post, they are always rotated or upside down.
I researched and found NO reasonable explanation why this happens. Don and I conversed a while ago about it, HERE, and I had no explanation. When looking at the attributes of cell phone photos, I see no "feature" showing orientation or mode to adjust.
When a user holds the cell in a normal upright position, the picture is fine. It gets transferred to a PC, looks fine in a MS Photo-viewer, Irfanview, etc. However, when it gets uploaded to the TDB, it's rotated or flipped.
Today I did a experiment and came up with a workaround, however I have no idea WHY my workaround works as it makes no sense. It is repeatable so I know it works.
Here is a example. This looks fine in MS Viewer, but when I insert it, it rotates it 90* CCW.

So I go into MS Photo Viewer, it orients properly. The next steps fix the orientation problem when uploading it....
In MS Viewer, I deliberately rotate it 90*(direction has no effect on results, in this case 90* CW), then save it. When I do this, this is the result of upload. It Uploads exactly the way it was oriented in MS Viewer when I saved it.

Now this is where it makes no sense. As shown above, I simply "re-saved" the file after I transferred it to the PC and it is now following orientation on Upload.
Now..... I go back into MS Viewer and repeat the process and merely rotate it (again, direction immaterial), to the proper MS Viewr orientation for viewing.
Here is the result of Upload after this "re-save" operation. Fixed!

I changed no attributes or features of the photo, or at least unintentionally. I simply deliberately rotate it, save it, then rotate back to normal, and it's fixed.
There is some attribute being changed, but I have no idea what it is.
Please try this next time you have a problem and post your results here in this thread.
I will do some research to try to learn more about this oddity.
