Well, last night I stumbled across something in the User Profile General Settings. Selectable site formats, in the "Forum Skin" button. Mobile View, or Full View which I always use on the laptop, and have been on the smartphone too. There are other skin/shells too but I haven't experimented with those yet.
We used to have Mobile View selectable in the shell of the Forums, at the bottom of the shell page is a button(Quick Style Changer drop down menu) which you could select "Mobile View" for smartphones. "Full Site" is default, and when in Mobile View, the bottom of the page has a button to go back to Full Site.
That Quick Style Changer button went away some time ago because it took too much effort to support it and we had to pay fees to Apps Stores(apple & android) whenever there were updates. So it got pulled.
I noticed it last night while on my phone changing my profile settings, the Mobile View, or Full View selector button is there. I never noticed it was there before. So I tried it and posted a thread here in the Test Forum using Mobile View on my phone. Needed 10 chars to post so I just did a few copy/pastes, so it was a fabricated repetitious test.
Some time ago when it was selectable on our site shell, just like on the CF site shell, but it was a bit buggy. When I used it on my Android to creat posts, it sometimes caused problems. Like replying to a thread, and I'd hit the Submit button, it would delete the post instead of submitting it. Very frustrating. So I would then have to go back to Full Site mode and if I was lucky I could "Restore Auto Save". Sometimes not. So I gave up using it back then.
On the phone it's hard to read posts in Full View mode. Mobile view is much easier on the eyes, as long as it functions properly. Now it seems to work ok, at least based on this little test I did. We'll see.
But warning to anyone reading this. Mobile View is NOT supported, so use it at your own risk.
